Liquidation Sale, Auction Set For Schuette’s Market

By Steve Rensberry, Editor

Local residents will have a chance for some real deals next week with a giant liquidation auction planned at the old Schuette’s Market store on Edwardsville Road.

The sale follows a gap of several months after the last two remaining Schuette’s stores in Troy and Breese were closed last September, when the company filed for bankruptcy.

Although estate Trustee Robert Eggmann announced this year that the properties had been sold to a holding company, their future use remains uncertain. Kues Bros., based in Aviston, was selected to prepare the Breese and Troy locations for the sale. A sale was held at the Breese SuperValu in mid-March.

The liquidation auction in Troy will take place over three days.

On Wednesday, April 17, merchandise will be marked down to 1/2 price, and will be first come, first serve for all merchandise on the shelves. People will be able to preview the merchandise from 4-5 p.m., with the sale scheduled for 5-9 p.m.

On Friday, April 19, merchandise will be sold at 75 percent off, with the sale running from 3-9 p.m.

On Saturday, April 20, the auction will start at 11 a.m. and will consist of an auction of store equipment and supplies in “Ring #1,” and the auction of full shopping carts full of merchandise in “Ring #2.” Buyers, the auctioneer states, “will bid on carts, and then walk through store and fill their cart level full.”
