Police and emergency crews responded to a single-vehicle rollover around mile-marker 17 on Interstate 55/70 at around 1 p.m. today, May 3. A female driver was helped from the vehicle and taken by ambulance to the hospital. Illinois State Police and emergency workers from the Troy Fire Department and Troy Police Department responded to the scene.
Illinois Department of Transportation data shows the stretch of road where the accident occurred to have an average traffic count of upwards of 35,000 vehicles per day, including a heavy semi tractor-tractor count. The car, a small Mazda pickup truck, ended up in the divide between I-55/70 and Frontage Road, just south of the junction with Harvestyme Lane.
Emergency workers used the Jaws of Life tool to remove the door from the vehicle in order to safety help the driver out of the vehicle. The cause of the crash has not yet been determined.
