We were lucky this past weekend to have a fair amount of sunshine and some relatively comfortable weather, compared to how other parts of the country are doing right now anyway. I’ve seen a lot of farmers in the fields lately, so the rains don’t appear to have set us too far behind, but that could definitely change, as you and I both know, though I sure hope it doesn’t.
I was pleased to hear that Susan Parker Adomite, wife of current Mayor Allen Adomite, was in New York last week with the company she works for at the closing bell of the Nasdaq! How cool is that? Susan is VP and Controller for the company Perficient, Inc., a consulting firm based in St. Louis.
A thank you is in order to the VFW for organizing another Memorial Day service, and thanks to Rep. Charlie Meier for being guest speaker — just before dashing off to Springfield for a legislative session — during a holiday no less! Next major holiday coming up? Independence Day, which calculations tell me will be exactly 35 days away as of the date of this edition of the newspaper. As always, the city of Troy will be hosting another big fireworks extravaganza, so be prepared.
In last week’s column, which listed a number of events coming up over the next few months, I neglected to list the annual Bradley R. Smith Memorial 5K Run, which I believe is set to take place on Sept. 7 this year. It’s always a great event, so add that to your list! We’ll have more info about the event when it gets closer.
FYI, now that the holiday is over, we’re back to our regular deadlines at the newspaper, so stop on by or give us a call if you’ve got something to say, or have an ad you want to place.
