Freeman Porter

Freeman M. Porter, 95, of Troy, born April 3, 1924 in Troy passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2019 surrounded by his family.

Freeman was a WWII veteran serving with the United States Army.  He was a member of Friedens United Church of Christ, Troy, American Legion Post # 708 Troy, and Served on the board of Augusta Cemetery, St. Jacob, for many years.  He loved his family and the times they spent together.

Surviving are his children, Mark (Mary) Porter of Edwardsville, Brent (Tina) Porter of Troy, Jill (Charles) Brenkendorf of Troy, Carla (Dan) Wigand of Glen Carbon, and Beth A. Rice of Troy, Erwin (Christine) Licher of Munich, Germany; grandchildren, Jamie (Scott) Gourley, Lacey (Matt) Luitjohan, Bradley (Caci) Porter, Jacob (Melinda) Brenkendorf, Aaron (Tammy) Brenkendorf, Casey (Jarrett) Hillebrand, Ashley (Kyle) Rickey, Christopher O’Dell, Amanda (Patrick) Smith, Bria (Chad Votava) Porter, Dieter, Anna, Lu and Saskia Licher; great-grandfather of 18; great-great-grandfather of one.

He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Fern (nee Thomas) Porter whom he married June 27, 1948 in Troy; his parents, William B. and Mindora (Nee Cline) Porter; brothers, Elmer and Roland Porter; sisters, Maybelle Harrigan, Edith Prott, Nola Guinzy, Ellen Murphy, Fern Embrey and Evelyn Harrison.

Freeman’s wishes were for a private family service.
