The Illinois Department of Transportation recently released its Fiscal Year 2020-2025 Proposed Highway Improvement Plan (also called the Multi-Year Plan or MYP).  The plan budget for the entire state highway program for the duration is $23.49 billion with program costs statewide for 2020 at $3.76 billion.  The budget for local projects is approximately $851.9 million with $77.9 million of that being done in 2020.

The increased budget is due to the passage of the comprehensive Rebuild America capital program and increased appropriations from the Federal Government and a shift in project selection priorities with the state. The Transportation Asset Management Plan focuses on maintaining and preserving the condition of the roads and bridges before they deteriorate and need more expensive repairs. This focus on low-cost treatments will help save money over costly repairs or replacements.

IDOT is currently accepting public comment on the Multi-Year Plan and considers them during the ongoing development of the projects. The full plan and list of projects is available online at the

Illinois Department of Transportation website at www.idot.illinois.gov.  Comments may be submitted on the form provided on the website via email to DOT.OPPMYPOutreach@illinois.gov, mailed to Illinois Department of Transportation, Office of Planning and Programming, Bureau of Programming, 2300 South Dirksen Parkway Room 307, Springfield, IL 62764, or by phone at (800)493-3434, TTY 1-800-526-0844.
