St. Jacob Village Board Signs On To Area Enterprise Zone Changes

By Stephanie Malench, Reporter

The Village of St. Jacob passed an ordinance amending Collinsville Ordinance 2014-30 to amend territory and add incentives to the Madison County Discovery Enterprise Zone at its regular November 6 board meeting.

Mayor Richard Schiefer said the village has no plans to change their territory or participate in the program, but approved the changes as a way to help the communities in the Zone accomplish their goals.  Cities within the Zone include Collinsville, Troy, and Glen Carbon.

The mayor also authorized an executive contract not to exceed $9,000 to replace two sledge pumps at the water plant.  Replacement includes replacing pipes in the pit and the propeller.

In other village council news, the village finally received the deed to place a generator behind the lift station.  Utilities will be contacted to mark lines so Ameren can connect the natural gas after concrete is poured and the generator is installed.

The board decided to table voting on the Fern and 5th St. drainage repairs due to a discrepancy between the two bids received and uncertainty which account(s) to charge for the work.  Replacement of street signs was subsequently tabled until the money is allocated for the drainage project.

Work at the Mill Pond has wrapped up for the season with 175 feet of concrete being poured with landscape rock and bushes being planned around the flag pole.
