Triad Hockey Drops Pair Against O’Fallon

By Mark Jurgena, Reporter

The Triad icemen fell twice to O’Fallon last week in MVCHA play.

THS fired 40 shots at O’Fallon goalie Aaron Kirkpatrick and hit the back of the net three times but they fell short 4-3 at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex in O’Fallon.

The January 16th game began with a Panther goal 1:25 into the match. Triad answered back at the 5:04 mark with a goal by Paige Stelzer, her second of the year. Jacob Parres picked up the first of his two assists on the night.

O’Fallon would add a goal before the period ended to give them the lead 2-1.

Triad evened the score at the 13:19 mark of the 2nd period when Andrew Watts scored on an assist from Daniel Verhaar. It was the seventh goal on the season for Watts.

However the Panthers answered with their own goal 41 seconds later to regain the advantage and O’Fallon would score later in the period to go up 4-2.

THS got a goal from Ethan McFarland with 3:01 to play in the second but could get no closer. Parres and Jordan Lewis recorded assists. It was McFarland’s 22nd goal of the season.

Logan Teater made 23 of 27 saves in goal for the Knights.

Triad fell to the Panthers 3-2 January 13th at the Granite City Ice Rink.

The Knights broke out on top at the 3:03 mark of the 1st period when Zack Davis scored his sixth goal of the year. Assists went to McFarland and Stelzer.

Davis scored again at the 6:03 mark of the 2nd period to give Triad a 2-0 lead. McFarland picked up the assist.

“Monday’s contest was a good game, we skated well everyone did. The young guys competed well. Zack Davis had two nice goals. He and Frankie Rhynes are doing well playing up front this season,” Triad coach Pat Culiberk said.

O’Fallon mounted a comeback late in the 2nd period to tie the score at intermission and would score again in the 3rd period to win.

Triad outshot O’Fallon 31-30 on the night. THS had the upper hand in the 1st period by a 14-7 margin but were outshot 10-3 in the final stanza.

Verhaar saw his first action of the year in goal for Triad. He stopped 27 of 30 shots during the game.

Triad sat at 5-13-1 on the year with 11 points after the week.
