Summer Lunch Program Information

In 2014 Friedens began a summer lunch program for the city of Troy. Each year it has grown, and locations have been added and removed depending on needs. In 2017 the 7th Troy church joined in on our fight for hunger and we also added the Tri-Township Library. And we are happy to announce we can utilize the library’s green space for another summer! Since the churches joined together, we have watched this program impact so many families. Due to the overwhelming request for lunches during the summer & with many families out of work due to the virus the churches of Troy are need monetary donations to help assist in this program. Your donation can be mailed to any church of your choice. We also appreciate volunteers to help with distribution which can be set up by calling or emailing Friedens. Your information and availability will be passed to each church.

Lunches are served from Monday – Friday 11:30 am-12:30 pm. The churches of Troy divide the locations and days of the week. On Fridays, Friedens hands out weekend backpacks at both locations to help the families with the weekend.

Most churches choose what they would like to distribute but a standard guideline Friedens uses is listed below. We also request gift cards for local restaurants to switch it up.

(for bag lunches) small brown bags, sandwich bags, bottle water, bread, lunch meat, fruit snacks, fresh & packaged fruit. – Each lunch contains a sandwich, a fruit (fresh or packaged), a sweet treat, and small snack. The churches like to switch it up and order from a fast food restaurant in Troy, so gift cards are also a great way to help.

(for back packs) peanut butter, Jelly, bread, cans of pasta (family size), breakfast cereal, breakfast bars, fruit & fruit snacks.

Triad School District will be handing out bag lunches over the summer on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, in Troy, St. Jacob and Marine.  There are 600 lunch on a 1st come 1st serve basis.
