Lady Knights Building Momentum After Strong Performances

By Anthony Jones

The Triad Lady Knights golfers have kept their momentum rolling after a solid start to their season. In their last four outings, they have managed to lower their season best total three times. The lone exception was a final score that finished one stroke above their season best.

One of their recent matches saw them travel to Jerseyville’s West Lake Country Club on August 27. In what was a one-on-one matchup against Jersey, the Lady Knights lost by a final score of 181-182. Leading the way for Triad were Anja Mills and Makenna Keith, who tied for second with a score off 45 and ten over par. Only one stroke behind them was the pairing of Emma Hill and Paige Hawkes, who tied for fifth place.

Two days later, the squad made the short trip to the Edwardsville Challenge, which was held at Sunset Hills Golf Course. In a loaded field featuring O’Fallon, Edwardsville, Alton Marquette, and Belleville East the team came in fifth place out of the five teams. The team did set a new season best with a score of 370 however, and they were only 7 strokes out of fourth place.

Triad’s top performer for the day was Emma Hill. She finished strong in seventh place after scoring seven over par with a total of 79.

On August 31, the team travelled to Waterloo at the Acorns Golf Links. Other teams present for the battle were Valmeyer, Waterloo, and Marissa. After the dust settled, the Lady Knights edged out Waterloo for first place by seven strokes. The team’s final tally of 170 was a season best for the team.

Hill yet again led the charge for Triad. She shot a 36 to make par, and was a medalist after finishing in first place. Makenna Jenson followed her with a third place finish at six over par and Makenna Keith came in fifth at nine over par.

Most recently, the team hosted a quad competition at Oak Brook Golf Course. After battling it out with Jerseyville, Waterloo, and Civic Memorial the team came in first pace. They yet again beat their season best with a tally of 168, which also put them 19 strokes ahead of any other team.

Hill and Jessica Sager both finished the day tied for first place. The duo shot four over par with a final score of 40. Triad’s pair of Makennas, Keith and Jenson, tied for fourth place after finishing eight over par.
