The 2020 season for the Collinsville girls tennis team has gotten off to a good start as the ladies are 2-2 in matches this season.
“The season has started out well so far,” said CHS coach Jessica Ledford. “Everyone on our varsity roster has won at least one match.”
This past week they beat Granite City 6-3 and Mascoutah 5-4.
Abbi Olsson led the way with two wins in singles and two wins in doubles last week.
In the senior night win over Granite, the Kahoks took four singles wins and two in doubles. Alyssa Garcia, Anna Falbe, Logan Phetsadasack, and Olsson won their matches.
The CHS #1 doubles team of Lindsey Taylor and Garcia won as did the #3 team of Olsson and Brinna Shea.
In the narrow 5-4 win over Mascoutah, the Kahoks took three wins. Taylor won her singles match in a tiebreaker as did Falbe. Olsson was also a winner.
Falbe and Phetsadasack won their doubles match as did Olsson and Shea.
All season the doubles combinations have successfully racked up points for CHS.
“I am happy because we were able to not really change much of our doubles teams from last year so they had the whole year to work together,” said Ledford.
Also this season Collinsville has squared off a pair of tennis powers in Belleville Althoff and Belleville West.
They lost to Althoff 6-3. Falbe and Phetsadasack won their match as did Olsson and Shea. In singles, Olsson took her match as well.
The Kahoks were unable to win a match against West.
Collinsville is off to a much better start than last year and Ledford attributed that to their off season work.
“They’ve improved greatly,” she said. “Almost my entire varsity lineup and a little bit of our JV players were in group lessons and individual lessons. They all have improved so much.”
