Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm

Members of the Collinsville Police Department’s Investigation Division presented the facts of this case to the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office on Sept. 08, 2020. After reviewing the case, the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office issued charges for the following individuals: Jessie R. Bates Jr. (33 yrs old) Springfield, IL Count 1: Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm Count 2: Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon Bond: $250,000.00 Marlin R. Thompson Jr. (27 yrs old) Springfield, IL Count 1: Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm Bond: $200,000.00 Jessie Bates is currently in custody in Springfield, IL. Thompson is at large. *********************************************************************************** On Saturday, 8/29/2020, at about 12:45 pm, officers of the Collinsville Police Department responded to the area of Collinsville Crossing at N. Bluff Rd. in response to a report of gunfire. Initial investigation of the incident has revealed several individuals, who had arrived in several different motor vehicles, engaged in an exchange of gunfire on the parking lot of Waffle House and St. Louis Bread Company. Several vehicles were struck. It is apparent at least one person was injured in the exchange; however, no persons have come forward to be identified as a victim. It is believed the suspects in this incident are from out of the immediate area. Witness statements and video evidence indicate the individuals involved were familiar with one another. Motivation for the incident is not yet known. Illinois State Police Crime Scene was contacted and they have assisted the investigation with processing the scene.
