Leander “Goose/Lee” Rapp Jr.

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Leander “Goose/Lee”
Charles William Rapp, Jr. of Troy.  Lee passed away at home, Sunday,
December 20, 2020 at the age of 84.

Lee was born August 5, 1936 in East St. Louis at St. Mary’s Hospital.  As a
child he lived in Maryville, later spending most of his life in
Collinsville.  He then established his family and later moved to Troy.

Lee graduated from Collinsville High School in 1954, where he was nicked
named “Goose,” excelled in sports, and was “very popular.”  He was a member
of the National Guard Reserves with an honorable discharge on January 24,
1960.  He worked as a Millwright at Granite City Steele for 43 years,
retiring in the late ’90’s.

Lee enjoyed being active having bowled in many leagues, played basketball,
was an avid hunter,  and was the lawn keeper for Mother of Perpetual Help
Catholic Church in Maryville for many years.

Lee had a passionate love for BIG dogs, having had many throughout his
years.  His life-long dream was to go on a cruise to Alaska, which he
fulfilled by going twice.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leander and Eva (nee Miller) Rapp;
his daughter, Cheri Lynn Rapp-Dyson; a daughter-in-law, Lynn Renee Rapp; and
canine companion, Boo.

Surviving are his loving wife, Norma Ellen (nee Johnson) Rapp of Troy,
whom he married on October 8, 1960; a son, Ronald (Mary) Rapp of Troy; 6
grandchildren:  Cory, Ryan, Adam, Renee, Lance and Dylan; and 4
great-grandchildren:  Weilyn, Emery Rose, Kyler and Landyn.  Lee cherished
his friendship with his dear friend, Ray Bean “Bean Man”.

Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 24, 2020 at
St. John’s Cemetery, Collinsville, with Pastor Sherman Smith officiating.

Memorials may be made in Lee’s honor to the MetroEast Humane Society or the
American Diabetes Association and will be received at the funeral home.
