Although the news got out a few weeks ago when this item was approved in committee, it became official at the Tuesday, February 9, Glen Carbon Village Board meeting.

Homecoming has been canceled this year.

This was due to the current COVID-19 situation, according to Village Administrator Jamie Bowden, and to the fact that the Community Events Committee is in the process of reorganizing and had not yet met or made plans for the event. The Building and Development Committee had discussed the matter at its meeting and recommended to the board that the 2021 Homecoming event should be canceled.

The board voted to cancel it.

In other action, the village approved a site plan with variances for Scooter’s Coffee at 4208 Illinois Route 159 on the condition that they place cross access agreements on the plats at the north and the south to be effective if the owners of those neighboring properties grant easements to the developer. This will be a drive-through facility, and this would make it easier for customers to get in and out.

The board heard a letter of resignation from trustee Susan Jensen, who is leaving  because she has been appointed assistant state’s attorney.

In other action the board approved:

• the appointment of James Telthorst to the Glen Carbon Zoning Board of Appeals for the term February 9, 2021 to April 30, 2023. He replaces Bogie Redmon, who retired from the board shortly before he died.

• the low bids received for the 2021 IDOT MFT Maintenance Program and the Miner Park Streambank Stabilization Project.

Lowest MFT bids were: aggregate – Mike Maedge Trucking, $9,079.20; sand –  Beelman Logistics, LLC, 896.40; and class “SI” concrete at $54,000; load charge at $1,000 and flowable fill at $10,500, all from Concrete Supply of Illinois.

Brewster Companies bid $42,000 and was awarded the Miner Park project.

The next village board meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 23 at 7 p.m. Call Village Hall for more information. It will also be livestreamed on the Village of Glen Carbon Facebook page.
