The Highland City Council met on March 15 at City Hall. During public forum, the council approved a request from Rusty Rodz Car Cruise to hold a car show on the square  from 5-8 p.m. on the last Saturday of each month from April through October.

The board awarded a bid to Crafco in Phoenix, AZ for a new asphalt hot box dump truck for the street department. The vehicle is a four ton electric-diesel dump truck and will cost $26,409. This was the only bid received and the vehicle will be delivered from the local dealer in Bridgeton, MO.

A motion was approved allocating funding from Park and Recreation Tourism funds to run a half page ad in the Tourism Times newsletter this spring and summer for $1,275.

An ordinance was passed authorizing the sale of surplus real estate at 1213 13th Street to Glass Development Group LLC for $12,000, which is 80% of the appraised value. The vacant land measures 7,420 square feet and is zoned  currently single family residential.

A second ordinance was passed rezoning 429 Walnut Street from “C-2” Central Business district to “ I” Industrial. The property is a former speed lube that has been vacant for over a year and the nonconforming use permit is no longer valid. The rezoning will allow for a similar business to occupy the building again.

Three motions pertaining to a “pet care and related services” business proposal for 708 Laurel St. were tabled until the April 5 meeting so the applicant could prepare a full presentation to the council.
