Sheryl “Lynn” Walter Owens, age 74, passed away on May 26, 2021. Born in Birmingham, AL, she was a 1964 graduate of Alton High School (IL) where she was a member of the Latin Club. She went on to The University of Illinois where she received a degree in mathematics. After graduating, Lynn worked at Shell Oil in New York City and in Houston as a computer programmer. After meeting John Owens, they married in 1970 and started a family in Rockville, MD. The family moved to Troy, IL in 1977 and have remained there since. Before retiring, Lynn worked as a computer programmer at SIUE and in the private sector.
Lynn was an avid gardener and was a professional photographer. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, John, their daughter, Erika (Owens) Drummond of Bloomington, IN and her husband Rob, their son, Stephen of Troy and his wife Niki, and five grandchildren: Destiny Shea, Andrew Drummond, Emily Drummond, Nolan Owens, and Layla Owens. She is also survived by her mother, Tommye [Milling] Walter of Godfrey, and her two younger brothers, Michael of Galena, IL and Thomas of Godfrey. She is preceded in death by her father, William M. Walter of Godfrey.
Visitation will take place at Richeson Funeral Home in Troy on Wednesday, June 2 from 11:00-1:00 pm. The funeral will follow at 1:00 pm with Rev. Tim Price officiating.
