Warren Thurnau

Warren V. Thurnau, 93, of Glen Carbon, formerly of St. Jacob, born Wednesday, February 15, 1928 in Highland, and passed away on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at Eden Village in Glen Carbon.

Warren proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and was a long time member of the VFW Post 5694, Highland, IL.  He retired from Centralia Cartage and ANR Freight and continued to farm his land in St. Jacob.  He was always ready for a good auction, collecting Winross Toy Trucks and many other antiques and collectibles.  Warren and Betty enjoyed their family and the times they were able to spend together.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty R. (nee Nelson) Thurnau whom he married April 7, 1956 at First Baptist Church, Edwardsville, and she passed away November 5, 2014; his parents, Oliver C. and Mayme (nee Liebler) Thurnau; siblings Harold (Laurine) Thurnau, Lyla (Dale) Gerstenecker, Jeanette (Louis) Taylor, Olive (Delmar) Nungesser, Clifford Thurnau, Joan Willaredt and Robert Thurnau; and his brother-in-law, Henry Pirok.

Surviving are his sister, Eleanor Pirok of Highland, brother-in-law, George Willaredt of Glen Carbon; sisters-in-law, Betty Thurnau of Glen Carbon, and Dorothy Thurnau of Trenton; and many nieces and nephews; dear friend to many.

Visitation for Warren will be held 5 to 7 pm on Sunday, August 22, at Aebischer-Richeson Funeral Home, St. Jacob.

Funeral services will be held 11 am Monday, August 23, 2021 at Aebischer-Richeson Funeral Home, St. Jacob.  Interment with military honors will be at Valley View Cemetery, Edwardsville.
