Dorothy Poletti

Dorothy Poletti, age 96, passed away on Friday, September 3, 2021 at Morningside of Troy where she had lived for the past six years.

Dorothy was born on October 2, 1924 in rural Troy (Blackjack). She attended Blackjack School and graduated from McCray-Dewey Township High School In 1942. She was a teacher at Blackjack School during WW II.

She married the love of her life, Francis (Frank) Poletti, on September 15, 1945 and worked together side by side on the family farm for over 50 years. Frank passed away on February 20, 1996. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Phillippine (nee Wittmann) Steinmeyer and her sister, Violet Juda.

Surviving are her children, Robert (Carroll) Poletti of Troy, Mark (Susan) Poletti of Red Bud, Alan (Sandy) Poletti of Troy and Janet (Royce) Highlander of Troy; 13 grandchildren, John (Angela) Poletti, Adam (Lisa) Poletti, Nathan (Lori) Poletti, Ben (Melissa) Poletti, Kevin Poletti, Christina (Darren) Stam, Jenny (Scott) Herman, Stefani (Tim) Berkenmeier, Melissa Poletti, Amanda (Andrew) Romanitis, Brittany (Chad) Williams, Erin (Roger) Taylor and Matthew (fiancee’ Amanda Byrd) Highlander; as well as 22 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was active in the parishes of which she was a member, St. John the Baptist in Blackjack and St. James Catholic Church in St. Jacob. She was an excellent quilter and made quilts for all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She never missed an afternoon of Bingo at Morningside and she always had a jigsaw puzzle in progress in her apartment.

Visitation was 5 to 8 pm on Tuesday, September 7, at Richeson Funeral Home, Troy and 9 to 10 am on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at St. James Catholic Church, St. Jacob.

Funeral Mass was held at 10 am on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at St. James Catholic Church, St. Jacob, with Fr. Kevin Laughery officiating.  interment will be in Friedens Cemetery, Troy.

Richeson Funeral Home, Troy was in charge of the arrangements.
