Lois “Bert” Simmons
Lois R. “Bert” Simmons, age 83 of Marine, died Tuesday, September 07, 2021, at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Highland.
She was born on Monday, April 04, 1938, in Litchfield, the daughter of Robert and Grace (nee Davis) Painter.
On Saturday, November 20, 1954, she married Howard L. Simmons at Litchfield, who passed away on Wednesday, August 06, 2008.
Born and raised at Litchfield; graduated from Litchfield High School. After marriage she and her husband lived at Litchfield, St. Louis, Edwardsville and most of their lives in Marine. She was the co-owner of B & G Market, Marine, for over 20 plus years. She and her husband spent many years, overseeing Christmas lights in the Marine Park. She volunteered and helped manage the Charles Gravius Library in Marine. She enjoyed camping, her grandchildren and being with family and friends.
Survivors include: daughters Linda K. (Vernon) Uhe, Alhambra and Kelly L. (Kent) Frey, Highland; sons Dennis H. (Karen) Simmons, Highland, and Daniel L. (Significant Other-Rhonda Krekovich) Simmons, Marine; Daughter In-Law Kristie Simmons, Saint Jacob; grandchildren Shanna (Fiance-John Lopez) Uhe, Crystal Uhe, Kevin (Fiance-Kailey Zajac) Frey, Jenna (Ryan) Boxell, Morgan (Brent) Phelps, Brian (Coren) Simmons, Dusty (Natalie) Simmons, Kristy Frey, Paige Simmons, and Allie Simmons; great grandchildren Scott Phelps, Breckin Simmons, Corbyn Boxell, Beckett Simmons, Taylor Phelps, Xander Boxell, and Ridge Simmons.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Thomas Painter and Grace May Painter (nee Davis); husband, Howard L. Simmons – Died 08/06/2008; son – Darren R. Simmons – Died 1/14/2021; grandchild – Tad Daniel Simmons – Died 10/04/2011; and sisters Joyce McNeal and Christine M. Higgins.
Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 PM on Friday, September 10, 2021, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, and from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 11, 2021, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland.
Funeral Service will be at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 11, 2021, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, with John Mindrup, Assistant Pastor, Salem United Church of Christ, Alhambra, officiating.
Interment will be at Marine Cemetery in Marine.
