Geisen and Morris Represent CHS at Sectional

By Mark Jurgena

Two Collinsville Kahok golfers competed in the IHSA Class 3A Lockport Sectional on October 4th at Nettle Creek Golf Course in Morris.

Jack Geisen and Leighton Morris both qualified out of the Collinsville Regional on September 29th.

At Nettle Creek, Geisen fired an 86 for the day. His total was short of the eventual qualifying standard of 75 at Lockport.

“Jack just had a few rough holes but has shown he has the ability to be our true number one golfer going into his senior year next year,” said coach Colin Moore. “He averaged right at 86 for the year. He has improved each year and has done a great job.”

Morris fired a 93 for his round.

“Leighton did not start off great either today and the nerves got to him,” said Moore. “The experience he gained will serve him well next year. When two of your top three guys advance it is a pretty good year.”

Lockport won the team sectional title with a score of 291. Frankfort (Lincoln-Way East) and Moline each shot a 298 to advance to state as well.

Individually, Tommy Potter of Moline fired a 66 on the afternoon for the individual title.

Thai Prackit and Caden Cannon from O’Fallon were able to qualify for state as individuals.

“Only two kids from our conference got out and 75 is a tough score to shoot on a golf course that you are playing for the second time ever. Overall a good season for the Kahoks,” said Moore.

State Notes:

Glenbrook North beat New Trier by three shots for the 3A team title. Jason Gordon of Glenbrook North won the individual title.

Benton got 2nd place in Class 2A, Breese (Mater Dei) got 7th place while Belleville (Althoff) got 12th. Cy Norman of Benton won the 2A title.

Vandalia won the Class 1A title by one shot over North Shore (Country Day). Effingham (St. Anthony) finished 4th.

Drew Hall of Taylor Ridge (Rockridge) won the 1A individual title over Chase Laack of Vandalia. Conner McCall of Vandalia was 4th.
