Denise Marie Canavit, formerly of Macomb, passed away November 10, 2021, at her residence in Troy.
Denise was born November 15, 1957, in Springfield, Illinois, the third of Bud & Joanne Quinn’s four children. She married Tom Canavit on Dec. 5, 1981, and the couple celebrated the birth of their daughter Savannah on August 15, 1986.
Denise is survived by her husband: Thomas L. “Tom” Canavit, her daughter: Savannah Lee (Ian) Shaw, her step-grandchildren: Bailey Shaw and Aksel Shaw, her mother: Joanne Quinn, her younger brother: Jeff (Laura) Quinn, and her sister: Mickey Quinn.
She was preceded in death by her father: Jean George “Bud” Quinn, her older brother: Greg Quinn.
Also, by Savannah & Denise’s beloved and fiercely protective female Cocker Spaniel: “Alex”.
Denise attended St. Agnes Catholic School in Springfield Illinois before the family moved to Macomb, where she then attended St. Paul’s Catholic School through the 6th Grade.
Denise transferred to Edison Jr High School in the 7th Grade, and this is where she first met her eventual husband “Tom”.
Denise went on to graduate from Macomb High School in 1975, and Illinois State University in 1979 (where she was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority). She then taught at Macomb & Pleasant Plains School Districts from 1979 – 1986.
Before leaving the teaching profession behind, she greatly enjoyed working with her students and fellow educators right up until the birth of her precious “Savannah”, at which time their immediate close bond and love became her complete focus and the most cherished blessing in her life.
Denise was a ferociously dedicated “Gym Rat”, typically attending Cardiovascular Aerobic and Strength Training five days a week with at least one of those sessions being a double class (Denise loved her “Gym Girls”, and looked forward to their daily workouts).
Anyone who has ever had the pleasure of meeting Denise immediately commented on her smile and infectious laugh. She often reflected upon how fortunate she was to have so many close and dear friends and family members, and she treasured her relationship with each and every one of them.
She was truly loved by all who knew her, will be dearly missed, and remembered as one of the most kind, caring, and genuinely thoughtful people to have ever walk the face of this earth! May she now Rest Eternally In Peace in the arms of our Lord.
The funeral Service was Tuesday November 16, 2021, at the Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home in Macomb, where visitation will be available one hour prior to the service (10-11 a.m.); Pastor Jim Eddy will officiate. Burial will be at Blackburn Cemetery (Schuyler County, IL).
