Alan “Snorts” May

Alan C. “Snorts” May, age 73 of Edwardsville, died Tuesday, March 08, 2022, at Saint Louis University Hospital in Saint Louis.

He was born on Tuesday, June 15, 1948, in Wood River, the son of Lyman and Mildred (nee Reid) May.

Alan was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church, Edwardsville; Royal Order of the Moose-Lodge 1561-Edwardsville and former member of the Marine Volunteer Fire Department.

Alan grew up on the family farm west of Marine, and graduated from Triad High School in 1966. Alan worked for Monsanto first as a pipefitter and later in his career as Director of Safety for Solutia. After 37 years of service, Alan retired to manage the family farm.

Snorts was an Eagle Scout, a long-time member (1971-93) and trustee (1995-2007) of the Marine Volunteer Fire Department and also trustee for the Madison County Fire Department serving on the Retirement and Finance Committee. Alan enjoyed pitching horseshoes in the Wednesday night league (Secretary/Treasurer) and made friends anywhere he went with his laugh and easy-going charm.

Survivors include: Son-David A. (Edie) May, Edwardsville; Daughter-Amy May (Joe) Brady, Brooklyn, NY; Grandchildren-Lily W. Brady, Brooklyn, NY, Patrick L. Brady, Brooklyn, NY, Devon A. May, Edwardsville,, Bella Jo May, Edwardsville,  Krystle N. Wright, Edwardsville, Kristy L. Wright, Decatur, IL; Great Grandchildren-Jaylen G. Jockish, Edwardsville, Beau D. Lyman, Edwardsville; Sister – Marla L. Maag, Glen Carbon.

He was preceded in death by: Parents Lyman L. and Mildred E. A. (nee Reid) May.

Visitation and Memorial Remembrance were Sunday, March 13, 2022 all at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home, Highland..

Private Interment will be at Marine Cemetery in Marine.
