James Harris

James B. Harris, 83, of troy, IL, born Thursday, October 13, 1938 in Decatur, IL and passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2022 in Edwardsville, IL.

James was a faithful long time member of Troy United Methodist Church where he was very involved in the building program for the present church building projects.  He was a graduate of Steven Decatur High School Class of 1957. He was a kind, hardworking man, always ready and willing to help others in need.  He was able to fix most anything or problem that he was presented.  James was a loving father, husband and grandfather.  He was active with the Boy scouts becoming a Scout Master as his sons became scouts.  He enjoyed Carpentry, wood models, fishing, sailing, working puzzles and classic cars and car shows.

He was preceded in death by his son, Michael D. Harris; a grandson, Brian Joseph Harris; and his parents, Merle G. and Verna M. (nee Bramel) Harris.

Surviving are his loving wife, Marilyn (nee Schmitt) Harris whom he married March 28, 1959 at Christ Methodist Church, Decatur, IL; his sons, James W. (Mary) Harris of Lebanon, IL, Timothy B. (Leasha) Harris of Troy, IL and Kraig R. (Trixy) Harris of Edwardsville, IL; daughter-in-law, Christina Harris of St. Jacob, IL; a grand-daughter, Kimberly D. Harris; brothers, Bradford B. Harris of Springfield, IL, Merle G. (Betty) Harris of Cape Cod, MA and his sister, Carol (Glen) Key of Lafayette, GA.

Visitation will be 10 to 11 am on Friday, August 19, 2022 at Troy United Methodist Church, Troy, IL.

Funeral services will be held 11 am on Friday, August 19, 2022 at Troy United Methodist Church with Rev. Andy Adams and Rev. Dennis Price officiating.
