Barbecue Competition in Troy is This Weekend

Tri-Township Park at 410 Wickliffe Street in Troy will be the site of a special barbecue competition being hosted by the Troy-Edwardsville Shriner’s Club this Saturday, August 20, beginning with an opening ceremony at 11 a.m. and going all day until 10 p.m. then again on Sunday when there will be a judging to determine the winning entries.
This is the first of what is hoped to become an annual event held in conjunction with the St. Louis BBQ Society, a group based in Ballwin, Missouri which is dedicated to the enjoyment of this type of outdoor cuisine.
Along with the competing professional vendors selling their tasty products, there will be a free bounce house all day Saturday and a free face painter from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. then. Among the local vendors participating will be Time Out Sports Bar and Grill, serving beverages the entire duration of the event, and City Scoops Ice Cream which is bringing its truck.
Live musical entertainment will be provided on Saturday by Joints 22 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., American Blue Grass Drive from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Beyond Judgement from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. then by Blue Marlin from noon until 4 p.m. Sunday.
Those attending should be aware that all vehicles entering the park for this event should do so from the Illinois Route 162 exit by FCB Bank as Collinsville Road will serve only as an exit. Parking is free and shuttle golf carts will be used to transport guests to and from their vehicles. All proceeds will benefit the Shriners’ many charitable programs and projects.
