Kathy Lynn (Harris) Smith

Kathy Lynn (Harris) Smith, 57, of Dupo, died at home on Saturday, September 17, 2022 after a lengthy illness. She was born December 7, 1964 to the parents of Roy and Jo Ann (McIntyre) Harris. Kathy was a loving daughter, mother and grandmother.

She was born deaf, and went to school for the deaf when she was 3 years old. Kathy graduated from 8th grade in Wood River, Illinois and from high school in Collinsville, Illinois. She worked for Glen Carbon Grade School, N. O. Nelson, Leclaire Elementary, and Edwardsville High School for 22 years, serving the handicap and deaf children. She also worked in the cafeteria. Kathy was baptized on December 18, 2005.

She loved all her deaf friends and kept in touch with them always. Her favorite color was purple, all shades of purple. SHe absolutely loved playing Bingo on Fridays and spending time with her grandchildren.

Kathy is survived by her loving and caring boyfriend, Bill Buckley of Dupo, Illinois (whom she lived with), her daughter Asheley Marie Smith of Granite City, Illinois and son, (B.J.) Robert Joseph Smith (Kelsey) of Mulberry Grove, Illinois. Her two brothers, David Wayne Harris of Caseyville, Illinois and Terry Lee Harris of Troy, Illinois.

Her Grandchildren include Cheyanne Smith, Hunter Smith, Ryder Sanders, Destiny Sanders, Gunner Smith. Kathy had lots of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and many friends. Kathy was preceded in death by her grandparents Charles Guy and Myrtle (Goetter) Harris and Richard and Mary (Long) McIntyre.

Her family is very thankful for the excellent care Kathy received at Siteman Cancer Center in St. Louis and also from Breeze Hospice and we will never be able to thank Bill Buckley enough.

Memorial service will be held October 15th at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 103 N. Border Street, Troy, Illinois from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Church or Hospice.
