Kahok Notes

By Mark Jurgena

National recognition

Against Champaign (Centennial), Collinsville running back Jerry Richardson made a spectacular leaping catch in the end zone on a two-point conversion in overtime to allow the Kahoks to knock off undefeated Centennial 15-14 at Kahok Stadium.

Richardson was undercut by a Charger defender and had to complete the process of the catch on his back in the end zone after he was spun through the air.

That catch has made some highlight reels on social media and beyond.

The vast majority of high school teams use the hudl platform to watch films from their games. Hudl provides many services including highlights from other games across the country.

Last Friday morning, Oct. 21, Hudl came out with their top five plays in the nation from the previous week. Richardson’s catch was named the No. 1 highlight play in the country. Yes, the whole United States.

It was listed as Jerry Richardson from Collinsville, Ala., but the video highlight was Richardson’s game-winning catch vs. Centennial.

The other four highlights were from schools in Florida, Texas, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

By the way, according to MaxPreps, the Collinsville, Ala. Panthers are 8-2 so far this season.

State Recognition

Richardson’s catch was named the top play in Illinois last week as well by the IHSA. The #FRIDAYNIGHT 5 included plays by Park Ridge (Maine South), Chester, Mendota, and Roxana.
