Kahoks fall to Tigers in regional title contest

The Collinsville High School soccer team fell to Edwardsville in the championship game of the Class 3A Collinsville Regional on Oct. 22 by a 2-0 count.
Edwardsville connected on a penalty kick goal by Tyler Dacus with just over twenty minutes to play to take a 1-0 advantage and later got an insurance goal via Collinsville’s accidental own goal to seal the victory.
EHS advanced to the Moline Sectional semifinals against O’Fallon. That game was played last night in Collinsville however results were not available at press time.
The Tigers improved to 15-5-2 on the season.
Semifinal vs. Quincy
CHS made the championship game by virtue of their 3-1 win over Quincy at Kahok Stadium on Oct. 19.
Trey Peterson scored two goals and Adam Reiniger added one to give the Kahoks a 3-0 advantage headed into halftime.
Peterson’s goals were numbers ten and eleven on the season while Reiniger’s was his 23rd of the year.
Unfortunately, Reiniger was injured later in the game and did not return. He was unable to play in the title contest as well.
Final Polling
Collinsville had a tough schedule and a fantastic 17-4-2 mark to show for it. The Kahoks were ranked No. 4 last week in the STLhighschoolSPORTS.com large school rankings. They were the highest-ranked Illinois team.
In that poll, St. Louis (University High) was ranked No. 1 with St. Louis (DeSmet) ranked No. 2. Webster Groves, Mo. was the No. 3 team. The Kahoks and the Statesmen played to a 1-1 tie in Collinsville back on September 12th.
CHS also squared off with the No. 5 squad in St. Louis (Chaminade) falling to the Red Devils 2-1 on Sept. 27 at the SLUH Tourney.
Belleville East and Triad were ranked No. 8 and No. 9 respectively in the poll. The Kahoks beat the Lancers twice and the Knights once this year.
