Turkey Trot set for Nov. 12 at Drost Park in Maryville

Runners await the start of last year’s Turkey Trot, a 5K run and one-mile walk to benefit cross country sports.
Local runners and walkers will have a chance to gobble up some road miles for a good cause this November at the 17th annual Maryville Turkey Trot.
Registration opens at 7:15 a.m. on Nov. 12, the day of the event, which is held at Drost Park in Maryville. The 5K is slated to start at 9 a.m. and the one mile accuracy walk/run at 9:10 a.m.
Organizer Sharon Petty said the event has a rich history and is for a good cause, with proceeds benefiting local cross country teams.
“It kind of started out as a smaller production with two members of the committee, Diana Hedrick and Cindy Jones and has blossomed into a 17-year event,” Petty said.
The pre-registration fee for the 5K run and tee shirt is $25 if received by Nov. 6. Race day entry fee will be $30 but with no guarantee of a shirt. The one mile accuracy walk/run pre-registration fee is $10 with shirt and the race day fee is $15.
Preregistration is available at raceroster.com/events/2022/64329/maryville-turkey-trot-2022 or via downloadable form available at the community events section of the Village of Maryville website, vil.maryville.il.us.
Proceeds from the event will be used to benefit local cross country teams.
“Cross country is one of those that doesn’t get the notoriety and the funds of some other sports,” Petty said. “So we thought we would help out the local cross country teams.”
