Lady Griffins cross country sees strong performance at state

Facing high winds, pouring rain, standing water and muddy conditions, members of the Lady Griffins cross country team from Father McGivney Catholic High School in Glen Carbon, three who can be seen here, enjoyed some success at the Class 1A state championship meet held in Detweiller Park in Peoria on Nov. 5. Kaitlyn Hatley finished seventh overall, earning her the first all-state ranking in the school’s history while the team came in 17th and their male counterparts from McGivney were 29th. The girls’ 17th place was the highest finish by any McGivney girls’ team at the state championship level. Others competing for the girls were Elena Rybak, Jane Cummins, Alyssa Terhaar, Sofia Luna and Isabella Harris. The boys’ team was led by Liam Boeving while also including Liam Schmidt, Riley Strack, Connor Schmidt, Levi Huber, Nolan Shearer and Evan Rybak.
