Kahok grapplers gain experience at Mascoutah Invite

The Collinsville boys team took part in the 52nd Dale Breckel Invitational at Mascoutah High School this past weekend. While the young grapplers didn’t finish high in the standings they gained plenty of experience.
Scott Snyder was the highest finisher as he brought home a 5th place finish at 195.
He began the day with a win over Braden Bush of Belleville Althoff by pin in 27 seconds then pinned Kyle Kujawa of O’Fallon in 4:19.
Snyder dropped a razor thin 5-4 decision to Logan Cooper of Bethalto (Civic Memorial). Cooper was undefeated at the time but was beaten in the title match by Carbondale’s Aiden Taylor.
From there Snyder moved into the wrestlebacks and beat Brandon Turner of West Frankfort by pin at 4:20 then pinned Logan Boyd from Morton at the 1:01 mark.
He was pinned by Mason Randall of Mt. Vernon in 24 seconds but came back to beat Elijah Johnson of Centralia by pin at 3:29 to take the fifth.
“His effort in the room is showing on the mat now,” said CHS coach Jordan May. “Something clicked in his head that made him realize how good he is at wrestling and he is proving it every day in the practice room and on the competition mats. He’s doing a great job and has the potential to go far in this sport.”
Nathan Cagg went 3-2 at 160 pounds pinning Landon Lynn of Triad at 3:15 and Malakie Gilchrese of Alton in 45 seconds. He also won a match by forfeit.
At 113, Mason Hare went 2-2 at Mascoutah.
He opened with a pin of Cameron Haake of Centralia by pin at 114 pounds then pinned Tyler Barlow of Bloomington at the 1:11 mark before dropping his final two matches.
Camron Minner also went 2-2 at the meet in the 120 pound class.
He beat Ezri Lennertz of Mascoutah by pin in 42 seconds. After dropping his second match to undefeated Lleyton Cobine of Roxana, he beat Jayden Wilkinson of Mascoutah at the 3:50 mark via pinfall. He dropped his final match of the tourney by a 6-1 decision to Noah Buehrle of Belleville East.
Kahok Devin Habermehl finished 2-2 at 220.
He beat Zach Davis of O’Fallon, Mo. (Ft. Zumwalt North) by pin at 1:25 and Noah Owens of Campbell Hill (Trico) at 40 seconds.
At 138 Carter Bub went 1-2 for the weekend after pinning Jackson Mason of East Alton (Wood River) at the 3:48 mark.
Stephen Stewart competed at 145 and also finished 1-2 after picking up an 8-4 decision over Gage Boucher of Murphysboro. It was his first victory this season.
As for the team standings Mt. Vernon won the tourney narrowly beating Normal Community 183-182 at the top of the 32-team leaderboard.
Roxana, looking to rise again as a small school power took a big step with a 3rd place finish with 176.5 points beating Quincy by three.
Collinsville finished in the 23rd spot.
Upcoming Schedule
The Kahoks wrestled Belleville Althoff Tuesday however results were unavailable at press time.
They compete in the prestigious Red Schmitt Invitational next week in Granite City.
