Thirty one schools were present at Mascoutah’s Dale Breckel Invitational wrestling tournament. Only four of those teams finished higher than Triad.
The Knights finished with 162 points for their fifth place finish. The only teams to best this mark were Mt. Vernon, Normal Community, Roxana and Quincy.
Colby Crouch continued his impressive season by finishing as the tournament champion in the 132 pound division. This was the lone title of the day for the Knights.
Another top three finish came from Aiden Postma. His third place division came in the 145 division with a total of 22 points.
Senior standout Nate Engler produced another strong finish for Triad. The 220 pounder finished with 14 points.
19 more points came from Ben Baumgartner, who competed in the 126 weight class. His performance placed him in sixth overall.
Senior Koen Rodebush added a seventh place finish at 182 to fuel Triad’s big day. 14 points was his final total.
Glen Henry and Matt Hobbs added the Knight’s sixth and seventh podium finish of the day, doing so in the 113 and 285 pound divisions.
The wrestling Knights will be back in action on Dec. 21, when they host Red Bud and Cahokia. They will travel to Edwardsville the following day.
