Brooks signs with McKendree cheer team

McKendree cheerleading received a National Letter of Intent from Triad High School senior Avery Brooks early this month.

The future Bearcat discussed her college decision, “Being able to stay close to home was very important to me, and after practicing with McKendree, I could tell that it felt just like home. The coaches and athletes are all so supportive and have the best, positive energy. I had absolutely no hesitation when deciding to cheer for McKendree, it just felt meant to be.”

Triad has found success on the mats during Brook’s high school career, finishing thirteenth place at the Illinois High School Association state finals last season. The Lady Knights also finished third at the Illinois Cheerleading Coaches Association championships last season.

“Being able to cheer at the collegiate level is proof that all of my hard work has paid off. I am excited to be able to continue my love for cheerleading at McKendree,” the future Bearcat described the chance to compete at the next level.

McKendree competes at the Division II level of the NCAA and in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Other league members include Maryville, UMSL and Quincy.

As a student at McKendree, the cheerleading commit plans to study mathematics secondary education.

Brooks shared her appreciation for those who helped her reach the collegiate level, “I would like to thank my parents, grandparents, and brothers for all the years of showing up and supporting me. And of course, all of my coaches who continue to believe in me and push me to be my best.”
