What would have been a special meeting of the Madison County Board on Tuesday, December 13, resulting in part from a petition signed by 10 of its members, ended up being canceled during the continuance of an ongoing period of contentiousness concerning the duties and powers of its chairman.

Among those signing the petition were board members Ryan Kneedler and Paul Nicolussi, both of Collinsville, Dalton Gray of Troy, Jason Palmero of Glen Carbon and Chris Guy of Maryville along with Michael Turner of Godfrey, Charles Schmidt of Edwardsville and three from Granite City, Robert Meyer, John Janek and Nick Petrillo.

An announcement about the petition had been made by Madison County Board Chairman Kurt Prenzler at the meeting of the board held on December 5 for the seating of its newly elected members and some other items, most related to this time of transition.

Prenzler told the board during that meeting he would be circulating the petition looking for signatures calling for the special meeting on December 13.

As stated in the heading of that petition, those signing it were calling for the special meeting “to consider repealing Ordinance 2022-03, the personnel policies for county board appointed officials and department heads and certain Madison County ordinances.”

That ordinance passed by a majority vote of the county board in July altered the powers and responsibilities of the chairman, reallocating them to others including a chairperson pro tem and vice chairperson pro tem.
