Steve Porter, a Troy native and 1969 Triad High graduate, will be inducted into the St. Louis Sports Hall of Fame on Monday, Feb. 20.
The induction will be at Gateway Classic Cars in O’Fallon. Doors open at 5, a buffet will be served at 6 and the program starts at 7 p.m.
Porter will receive the Greg Marecek Award for Media. He spent 45 years writing sports with 40 of those at the Alton Telegraph. He retired in 2016.
This award was established in 2022 to honor the late Marecek, the founder and former president of the Hall of Fame.
Rick Hummel of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch was the recipient of the first Marecek Award last year.
Others to be inducted this year include: Don Freeman, Bob Cryder, Richard “Itch” Jones, Jill Gomric Dalke, Mike Goodrich, Jay Harrington, Cathy Snipes, the late Hank Bauer, Tom Pile and the 1990 and 1998 Edwardsville High baseball teams.
