Dalton Gray of Troy, who represents District 11 on the Madison County Board, has been appointed to a position on the county park and recreation grant commission, filling a vacant seat formerly held by Jamie Goggin of Edwardsville.
The recommendation for the appointment of Gray to this commission came forward from the Madison County Board Government Relations Committee, chaired by Stacey Pace of Troy, which met on Tuesday, February 7.
There being no objections to Gray’s appointment at that time from members of the committee or other county board members present, it was expected to receive final approval at the full board’s regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, February 15.
Last November, Goggin did not seek reelection for his District 24 county board seat which covers much of Edwardsville. That county board district is now represented by Charles “Skip” Schmidt who won the election over Erika Kohoutek.
The vacated seat on the park and recreation commission has to be held by a member of the county board so Gray is taking it for a term of two years to expire February 20, 2025. He is a member of the aforementioned government relations committee but abstained from voting on his own appointment to the commission.
The Madison County Board created its park and recreation grant commission under the provisions of the Illinois Metro-East Park and Recreation District Act of 2020 which made it possible for the voters in both Madison and St. Clair counties to approve creation of a park and recreation district encompassing both along with the establishment a one-tenth of one percent sales tax within its boundaries.
The purpose of that tax is to create revenue for providing funding for both regional and local park and recreation facility improvements. The park and recreation district Madison County office is located at 157 N. Main St., Ste. 312, Edwardsville, IL 62025.
