State Sen. Erica Harriss (56th-Glen Carbon) has been appointed to six senate committees for the 103rd General Assembly and will serve as the Minority Spokesperson for the Local Government Committee, according to a news release from her office.
“I’m honored to be a member of so many important committees and to be able to be a voice on the issues that impact the constituents of my district every day,” Harriss said. “As someone who has experience in local government from my time on the Madison County Board, I look forward to being the lead Senate Republican on the Senate’s Local Government Committee, where I will get to bring my knowledge on those issues to the state government level.”
Harriss will also serve as a member of the Higher Education, Energy and Public Utilities, Veterans Affairs, Special Committee on Pensions, and Appropriations-Health and Human Services Committees, according to the release.
“The committee process is an important piece of the legislative process. It provides a great way to ask questions about legislation and to hear from the general public about their support or concerns,” Harriss said.
Senator Harriss was sworn into the 103rd General Assembly on Jan. 11, and represents the 56th District made up of Madison and St. Clair counties. She recently announced the opening of her new district office located at 35 Plaza Court, Maryville, IL 62062.
