Glen Carbon Contracts WHKS for water service, employee training

By Kathy Turner

The Glen Carbon Board of Trustees on Tuesday, Feb. 14 approved a contract with WHKS to provide Class C Operator services at the water plant for the remainder of the year. The contract will allow two existing employees to complete their final hours of supervision to obtain their own Class C certification. They will then be ready to assume the duties when new water plant services begin in the Village.

The Board also approved an Ordinance annexing property into the Village. The property is identified as South State Route 157 and is the location of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Cemetery commonly known as the Russian Orthodox Cemetery. The property was formerly in Edwardsville Township.

The Public Works Department received authorization to make vehicle purchases. The first is for a 2022 Ford F-450 Chassis Truck to be equipped as a small dump truck. The vehicle will be purchased from Olathe Ford in Olathe, Kansas. Cost of the truck is $55,509 with an additional cost of $37,950 to outfit the truck at Wood’s Municipal Supply.

The department will also purchase two new trucks to be used for street maintenance. Both an F150 truck and F250 truck with lift gate will be purchased from Morrow Brothers of Greenfield, Illinois. The latter was previously ordered in 2022 but the order was canceled by Ford Motor Company which meant re-ordering at a higher price. The F150 will cost $31,850 and the F250 will cost $53,448, nearly $12,000 over the original price in 2022.

Sikich has been contracted to provide audit services for the Village. The original request for proposal did not yield interested firms, so the Village accountant reached out to Sikich who previously provided the services. They agreed to a three-year contract. Base cost for the audit of FY2022 will be $32,500.

Beginning Tuesday, Feb. 21 the village hall hours of operation will change to align with other departments of the Village. Hours will be 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Finally, the Board approved the Mayor’s appointment of Wenifer Greer to the Community Events Committee.

The next meeting of the Board will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 28 beginning at 7 p.m.
