Glen Carbon Approves Comprehensive Planning Agreement

By Kathy Turner

The Glen Carbon Village Board, on Tuesday, Feb. 28, approved an agreement with H3 Studio of St. Louis to develop a Comprehensive Plan for the Village. John Hoal and Tim Breihan of H3 Studio attended the meeting and outlined a timeline for the process. They will work with TWM (Village engineers) as well as Board members and community members during the development process.

It is estimated that the work will take approximately one year to allow for a thorough investigation of historical documents, review of current codes and ordinances, and then develop a plan for future growth of the Village. Total cost of the Comprehensive Plan is estimated at $80,000.

In other business, the Board approved several contracts in the planning for the 2023 homecoming. Scheduled for June 16 and 17 this year, the homecoming will feature music by Johnny Holzum and the Well Hungarians on Saturday, June 16.

Fountain City Amusements will provide carnival services. There contract calls for 20% of the gross ticket sales for the rides at the event.

Finally, a contract with Republic Services was approved. They will provide restroom facilities for the weekend.

Two new squad cars for the Village will arrive fully equipped after a motion to approve equipment install at Morrow Brothers, the state contracted vendor for the vehicles. They will also be striped by TABS for $7500 per vehicle.

With Homecoming planning underway, residents, businesses and organizations are encouraged to consider a sponsorship or registration for a booth at the event. The homecoming is slated for June 16 and 17. Registrations and sponsorships can be secured through the village website.

There will be an Easter Egg hunt at 1 p.m. on Apr. 2 at Schon Park. Children must be registered to participate. Registration can be completed at www.glencarbonil.gov/872/village-events.

The Village will hold another leaf and limb collection on March 11. Residents can drop off yard waste in bags at the Public Works Building, located at 153 N. Main Street, between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

The next meeting of the Village Board will be held on Tuesday, March 14 at 7 p.m.
