7 vie for Triad Board of Education

Times-Tribune staff

Seven candidates will face off in the April 4 election for three seats up for grabs on the Triad Board of Education.

Board members are elected for four-year terms and seats are divided by townships, with no more than three members each. On the April 4 ballot, voters will be asked to pick four individuals.

Running in the upcoming election, named as they appear on the ballot, are Katy Little, Jeff Hewitt, Kim Dailey, Kristie Cook, Hanna Turner, Amy Moss and Ken Miller.

In an effort to inform voters, the Times-Tribune this week asked each to complete a simple profile on their candidacy. All were given the same questionnaire, which asked for biographical and experience information. Here are their responses.

Why are you running for office?
I am running to help the community regain local control of our schools. I want to help make decisions that are best for our community and not mandates that are dictated to us by politicians. I believe the role of an educator is to teach the tools to be successful. As a manager in our community, I see that our students need more time in Math, Reading, Language-Arts and Social Studies. They need to be able to master these skills to be able to be productive members of society. Back to the basics, it is not the school’s job to teach the radical new sex-ed and critical race theory curriculums. Let’s take back control of our schools.

I believe I can be an open-minded and collaborative leader in the Triad School District. I value the importance of having meaningful relationships and communication between parents, students, community members, and faculty and staff. I will be an approachable and responsive representative making the most thoughtful and educated decisions possible. Furthermore, as our district continues to grow, I would be honored to help lead Triad into the future. I have the desire and knowledge to build upon the district’s vision for the future by investing in our faculty, staff, opportunities, curriculum and resources, and facilities. With continued reflection, collaboration, and change, I believe our students will continue to rise and exceed all expectations.
