Triad’s top performers of the indoor track season earned their way to last week’s Illinois Top Times meet. The closest equivalent to a state meet for indoor season, athletes were required to record top marks compared to the rest of the state to be invited to the event.
In one of the team’s most impressive finishes, the 4×200 relay team of Tashon Crockarell, Louis Yohannes, Cory Warren and Owen Lightner clocked in at 1:34.08 to break the Triad indoor record that they had set one week prior. Their blazing time secured a fifth place finish overall.
As Triad’s lone female representative, Makenna Witham took fifth place in the high jump. Her height of 1.58 meters would have earned an eighth place finish at last season’s IHSA State Finals in Class 2A.
The sophomore was only bested by senior jumpers, all of whom finished in the top six of the IHSA State Finals last summer. Brianna Dixon of Rantoul won the event with a mark of 1.67 meters.
Fellow sophomore Yohannes added to the Knights’ impressive results with an 8.61 second performance in the 60 meter hurdles. His time was just six hundredths of a second away from third place and the fastest by a non-senior. The second year runner was also the only underclassmen to reach the finals of the event.
Crockarell, a junior, added another impressive result for Triad in the high jump. He landed in ninth place after clearing a height of 1.82 meters.
Three of his competitors medaled in Class 2A at last year’s State Finals, including state champion Teegan Davis of Princeton. Half of the athletes that finished ahead of the junior standout were seniors
Senior Tristan Darby finished in nineteenth place after recording a time of 7.23 in the 60 meter dash. His time placed him in sixth place in his eight athlete heat.
