Troy PD: Council Chambers open as storm shelter

With severe weather possible Friday evening, Troy Police announced city council chambers will be open to anyone who feels unsafe at home.

“The Troy City Hall Council Chambers will be available for anyone that doesn’t feel comfortable riding the storm out in their home,” a department social media post reads. “Check-in at the Police Department.”

The Council Chamber and police department are located in the Troy Municipal Building, 116 E. Market Street.

Madison County remains under a tornado watch until 8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.  In addition, a hazardous weather outlook has been issued.

“Thunderstorms are expected across most of the area today mainly this afternoon and evening. Some of the thunderstorms this afternoon and evening may be severe with damaging winds, large hail, and possible tornadoes,” the outlook states.

A wind advisory is also in effect until 1 a.m. Saturday, according to the NWS. Southwest winds will shift to the west tonight with speeds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts up to 55 mph.
