Ethan Bagwell gave up one-hit on the mound and Kris Alcorn had two extra-base hits to lead the Collinsville baseball squad to a 10-0 shutout victory at Fletcher Field on March 29.
“(It was a) slow start offensively, but junior Kris Alcorn sparked us with a big two-run homerun on his second time through the order,” began CHS coach Brett Swip. “That led to good offensive adjustments by sophomore Adam Bovinett going to the opposite field with two hits including the 5th inning short game winner. Junior Ethan Bagwell was good and efficient as he continues to ramp up to the Southwestern Conference season.”
Alcorn got CHS on top in the bottom of the 3rd with a two-run bomb to center to score Blaine Martinez who had started off the inning with a single.
With two outs, Kolby Anderson was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on a single to right by Bryce Lemp.
After another 1-2-3 inning by Bagwell the Kahoks put up four runs.
Luke Weller was hit by a pitch to start the inning and was replaced by courtesy runner Caden Pruitt.
Pruitt advanced to second on a wild pitch and moved to third on Darren Pennell’s fly out to right. Martinez drove him home with a single to make it 4-0 Kahoks.
Martinez would eventually score on a passed ball just before Bagwell walked to load the bases. Bovinett then singled to right to score Alcorn – who had walked – to make it 6-0 Collinsville.
Anderson’s ground out drove home Bagwell for the final run of the inning.
Meanwhile Bagwell was busy mowing down the Warrior bats.
In giving up only a single hit, he walked two and struck out eight.
Ty Jones, Alcorn, and Bovinett all drove home runs in the bottom of the fifth to invoke the mercy rule.
For the game, Alcorn had two hits as did Bovinett and Martinez. Bagwell, Lemp, Jones and Weller all had singles for the purple and white.
Mascoutah 9 CHS 3
Mascoutah put together a big seven-run fourth inning to help subdue Collinsville 9-3 at Fletcher Field on March 31.
The Indians had climbed on top 1-0 in the top of the second, but the Kahoks responded with a big inning in the bottom half.
Lemp led off the inning by blasting a 2-1 pitch into right for a triple before Curtis Schaaf singled to tie the game and advanced to second.
Schaaf stole third before coming home to make it 2-1.
Weller then singled to left and was lifted for courtesy runner Pruitt.
Ethan Jones moved Pruitt to third on a sacrifice bunt before Darren Pennell was hit by a pitch and Bagwell singled to make it 3-1 CHS.
The Kahoks outhit Mascoutah 12-7 but just couldn’t push enough runs across.
Schaaf had three hits while Bagwell and Weller had two. Alcorn, Bovinett, Anderson, Lemp, and Jones all singled.
Alcorn ended up taking the loss on the hill for CHS.
