Collinsville’s softball team got a big 16-0 win in three innings over East St. Louis on April 4 at the Collinsville Sports Complex.
“The theme of our season this year has been to stay on us, regardless of opponent, outcomes, or any other outside factors, and we’ve executed that well up to this point,” said CHS coach Jess Schmittling. “We are on our own journey, and every day is a chance to buy into that. Nine games into the season, I’m proud of what we’re building. I’m proud of where we’re growing and I’m proud of the way our team is rallying around our identity.”
The Kahoks banged out nine hits in their two turns at bat and received 12 freebies including seven walks, three errors, and two hit-by-pitches.
CHS sent 15 hitters to the plate in the bottom of the first and did not make an out until the tenth hitter of the inning.
They had four hits in the inning including two by Addie Stone and a triple by Katie Bardwell. Faith Fairchild added a single as well.
Runs scored in the first inning including Bardwell and Stone. Others scoring in the opening frame include two runs by Emma Hylton and Bailey Demick with single runs from Lexi Rafalowski, Keagan Edwards, Jazzmyne Gomez, Paulie Schreiber, and Faith Fairchild.
Collinsville plated six runs in the 2nd inning with the big blow coming off the bat of Demick in the form of a two-run triple.
Fairchild, Rafalowski, Hylton, and Stone all had singles in the frame.
For the game, Stone had three hits while Fairchild had two. Stone had three RBI while Demick and Fairchild had two each.
Marissa Thomas was in the circle for the Kahoks. She went three innings and gave up two hits, zero runs, walked none and struck out five.
Breese (Central)
On April 7, Breese (Central) came to Collinsville and left with a 15-0 victory in four innings.
The Kahoks were able to muster three hits against the Cougars with Hylton going 2 for 2 on the day. Gomez picked up the other single.
Thomas and Aubrey Mason were in the circle for Collinsville.
Waterloo
Waterloo came to Collinsville on April 8 and beat CHS 12-0 in five innings.
Thomas was the only baserunner of the day after taking a hit-by-pitch.
The Bulldogs had a 6-3 record after the weekend.
Upcoming Schedule
Collinsville played at Alton on Monday and hosted O’Fallon on Tuesday however results were unavailable at press time.
They play at Belleville East today and at Alton (Marquette) tomorrow.
On Monday they travel to Carbondale and host Granite City Tuesday. Marion is in town on Wednesday.
