As a result of their written works created on their own and independent of outside, adult input, 26 students in Collinsville Community Unit School District 10 have been selected to participate in the Madison County Regional Office of Education Young Authors Conference set for later this month.

Each spring the ROE recognizes young authors winners from school districts throughout the county at the event where students have the opportunity to share their books with each other, participate in reading and writing focused activities and enjoy entertainment by older authors, storytellers and performers.

Designed with the intent of encouraging elementary and middle school age students, kindergarten through grade eight, to engage in the art of writing, the conference will be held at Edwardsville High School, 6161 Center Grove Road in Edwardsville, on Saturday, April 29.

The Unit 10 students selected as winners were guests, along with their parents, at a special tea event held in their honor on Tuesday, March 28, during which the district superintendent, Dr. Mark B. Skertich, served as master of ceremonies and read one of the entries, “The Dirt Bike Kid Who Didn’t Give Up,” by Brentley Krumminger.
