The restaurant set to occupy the ground floor of the former US bank in downtown Troy now has a name.

Mio Trattoria, which translates to “My Kitchen,” is planning to open in late July or early August at the corner of Main and Market streets. Owners Micah Hopkin and his wife Aerika Hopkin have a long family history in the restaurant business and said they are excited to come to Troy.

“It’s all I’ve ever done,” Hopkin said. My mom and dad were in the restaurant business their whole lives. They owned a restaurant in Imperial, Missouri, called Bambinos. My mom has been working for LoRusso’s Cucina on the hill for 30 plus years.”

The restaurant will feature Italian fare. On the menu will be pastas, pizza, steaks and many other items.

“We are family-oriented and will have everything from pastas to pizzas to sandwiches, steaks, seafood, all of it,” Hopkin said.

Hopkin, who lives in Edwardsville, said the family decided on Troy for a location after learning about the renovation of the building by Pfund Construction. He said he thinks Troy is a growing area and the business will do well.

“They (Pfund) had this spot going and they wanted me to come out and look at it. I thought there is not another restaurant of this type out here and this is a growing area. I think it will go very well.”

In addition to the full-service Italian restaurant, there will be outdoor patio seating and a coffee house. On the top floor, the newly renovated building will feature upscale apartments.

“The patio is going to be a big presence,” Hopkin said. “It will be fully covered with a bar out there. We are going to do a little coffee house and ice cream place on the side of the building. We will have TVs out there, fans, it’s going to be gorgeous.”

I hope they do something to soften and flavor the stakes to make them edible.

Troy is a finicky town either the locals will either embrace it or shun it. If you price things too high (upscale) you will run off the customer base quickly. Troy is loyal to a good restaurant, Randy’s was a prime example. Demographics have changed in Troy over the years I hope you are successful…. good luck!

Upscale? Lol. That just means high rent. Downtown Troy is not upscale. Lol

You said in your report it was no other Italian food in Troy I beg to differ. What about Alfonso‘s or Joe’s Pizza and pasta? Since win don’t they qualify as Italian food? I’m sure the restaurant will be good., But give credit where credit is due.

What’s wrong with trying to improve our downtown? People are so negative. I think it’s a great idea and we need more people who want to invest in our town. Congratulations on your new business and I wish you great success ! Thank you for bringing this to Troy.

Are the stakes in case the garlic doesn’t keep the vampires away?
