As the Metro East Recreational Baseball League stretches past the midway point of the season, several Troy teams remain high in the high school division standings.
The top two Troy squads in the American League, Troy 2 and Troy 6, faced off July 5. Troy 2 entered with a 7-3 record for second place and Troy 6 held onto third place at 6-4.
The game’s first run came in the bottom of the second as Noah Allen scored for Troy 2, after singling and stealing two bases before an RBI groundout. Ben Hudson pushed the home team ahead 2-0 later in the frame after producing a single and stealing three bases.
Bobby Patterson kept a no-hitter alive through the top of the third to keep Troy 2’s advantage alive.
Aftering putting balls into play Reed Buchana and Zack Rice kicked off the bottom of the third by reaching base safely. A subsequent RBI groundout from Ty Long scored one runner for a 3-0 lead.
Troy 2’s rally continued later with a run-scoring single from Trent Droy. Droy later scored after moving via a fielding error and a passed ball. Their lead would wind up at 7-0 at the end of the frame that also included an RBI single from Allen.
While Troy 6 would pull closer, their early deficit proved insurmountable as they went on to lose 8-2. Both teams remained in their respective league standings of second and third after their intra-city matchup.
