Collinsville athletes earn several all-conference awards

by Mark Jurgena

COLLINSVILLE — Several Collinsville High School athletes have made the cut for various Southwestern Conference all-conference teams based on their stellar performance this fall.

Boys Soccer

Collinsville pulled out quite a turnaround on the pitch this fall. They began the season 2-4 against their rugged schedule and were 6-6-1 before ripping off a nine game winning streak and finished the season at 15-7-1.

They won their fourth straight SWC title, won the Edwardsville Regional and the Bloomington Sectional before falling to Naperville (North) in the snow at the Aurora (East) Super-Sectional

Kahoks named to the first team include Adam Reiniger, Dane Compton, Landon Mahat and Trey Peterson.

Three Kahoks made the second team. They were Sam Garofalo, Juan Carlos-Doria and Braden Henson.

The third team saw three more Kahoks selected. Braden Boerm, Josh Morales and Chris Munoz all made the cut.

“We are very proud of the boys who were able to earn a  spot on the all-conference teams,” said CHS coach Rob Lugge. “The hard work and dedication throughout the summer and fall have put these boys in the position to be successful on and off the field.”

Cross Country

Two members of the cross country team were named all-conference recently. Senior Andrew Gonski was named to the second team while freshman Chase Cummins was granted Honorable Mention status.

“Andrew Gonski and Chase Cummins both ran their best race of the season to earn second-team all-Conf honors and honorable mention!” said Collinsville coach Darryl Frerker. “Well deserving for two hard-working working, dedicated athletes.”

Girls volleyball

The Kahoks had their best season since finishing 22-10 in 2018. This year they finished with an 18-12-1 overall mark including a 4-6 mark in conference action.

Two Collinsville athletes were named Honorable Mention all-conference. They were sisters Aubrey Johnson, a senior and Avery Johnson, a freshman.

Girls Tennis

Two CHS tennis players were named All-SWC in singles play Toby Hawkes and Meonshae Boyd with Hawkes being named to the second team and Boyd Honorable Mention.

In doubles play, Arely Onate and Avery Schult were Honorable Mention as well.

Girls Golf

Three golfers made the cut for the All-SWC team this fall.

State qualifier Kiley Belobraydic was named to the first team while Mady Lerch and Emma Hylton were both named Honorable Mention.

Belobraydic took third place at the SWC Tourney.

All three girls are seniors.

Boys Golf

Just like the girls squad, three Kahok boys golfers qualified for the All-SWC team.

Junior Eli Verning made the first team SWC squad. He finished fifth at the SWC Tourney and fourth in the Class 3A regional to qualify for the sectional round.

Sophomore Drew Bailey took ninth place at the SWC and was named second-team all-conference while fellow sophomore Ryker Shea was Honorable Mention all-conference.
