Local athletes named All-Conference

Several student athletes who participated in fall sports programs at Father McGivney Catholic High School in Glen Carbon and Maryville Christian High School have been recognized by the Gateway Metro Conference for their performance.

Named to all-conference teams from Father McGivney, listed with their particular sports, were Maddie Hylla and Sami Oller – volleyball, Elena Rybak, Kaitlyn Hatley, Jane Cummins, Connor Schmidt, Levi Huber and Liam Schmidt – cross country, Spencer Martin, Aaron Broadwater and Spencer Sundberg – boys’ soccer, Joey Hyten – boys’ golf, and Sarah Hyten – girls’ golf.

FMCHS students receiving honorable mentions from the six-school conference were Mia Lieberman – volleyball and Mason Holmes – boys’ soccer.

The successful fall sports season saw Father McGivney’s Griffins teams earn conference championships in both boys’ and girls’ cross country, girls’ golf and girls’ tennis.

From Maryville Christian, located in Maryville, the all-conference honorees are Ella Harrison – volleyball and Titus Verning – boys’ soccer while its students recognized with honorable mentions consist of Ady Ballard – volleyball and Cole Pritchett of boys’ soccer.

The other schools in the Gateway Metro Conference include Althoff of Belleville, Marquette of Alton, Metro East Lutheran of Edwardsville and Christ Our Rock of Centralia.
