Lutz takes crown at Chatham Invite

COLLINSVILLE — The Collinsville boys wrestling team from Collinsville had several good showings Dec. 2 at the Tyler Cox Memorial Invite in Chatham.

CHS took seventh place at the 17-team invitational with Edwardsville taking first place.

Kahok Cody Lutz won the title at 165 lbs. He beat Brayden Flinn of East Peoria in the opening round with a pin at 4:22. In the semifinals, he won by a tech fall over Maizon Mileston of Chatham (Glenwood) by a count of 18-2.

He won the title bout in 1:50 over Jonah Broughman of Glenwood.

“Lutz displayed a new type of confidence and dominated his way through the tournament,” said CHS coach Jordan May. 

Camron Minner took second at 132 at the event. He opened the day with a 4-1 decision over Liam Halloran of Grayslake Central then took a major decision over Aidan Eisenberg of Grayslake Central by a 9-1 major decision. In the championship, Isaac Smith of Carbondale beat Minner by a fall at 1:25.

Scott Snyder took fourth place at 190. Snyder pinned Moses Kim of Champaign (Centennial) in 58 seconds then beat Jaxen Pratt of Grayslake Central by a 16-5 major decision. He dropped the semifinal to Chris Hull of Springfield (Southeast) by a 16-9 decision then fell to Joseph Weeks of Dunlap by a 6-3 decision in the third-place match.

At 126, Tyler Minner got sixth place. He won his opening match by DQ over Brady Welch of Marion then fell to eventual weight champion Drew Davis of Glenwood via pin at 1:03. Minner won his next two matches over Daniel Weidner of Dunlap at :40 and Dylan McCain of Triad by a 9-3 decision. In the fifth place match he fell to Kayson Duffney of Decatur (Eisenhower) by a 12-7 decision.

In the heavyweight class, Jack Shepherd took seventh place with a 3-2 record. He started with a win over James Christophel of Dunlap via pinfall at 2:36 before falling to weight class champ Jack Barnhart. Shepherd pinned Jesus Castaneda of Grayslake (Central) by pin at 3:54.  After losing to Stormy Hughes of Charleston, he bounced back with a pin over Christophel of Dunlap by pin at 3:17.

Edwardsville

Collinsville fell at Edwardsville in their SWC opener 62-15.

For CHS, Snyder, C. Minner and Chase Hare all picked up wins.

Minner beat the number eight ranked wrestler Levi Wilkinson via pinfall.

Collinsville hosted O’Fallon Wednesday night however results were unavailable at press time.
