Bowling Kahoks take third in St. Louis

by Mark Jurgena

COLLINSVILLE — The Collinsville boys bowling team came away from Saturday’s Sho-Mo Classic with a third place finish in the team tourney.

They defeated Mt. Vernon in their final game of the day at Concord Lanes in St. Louis.

“We were fairly consistent but we still have a little bit of ups and downs,” said Collinsville coach Sean Hay. “We’re still kind of looking for the fifth guy but we’re narrowing down who that’s going to be.”

Jacob Taylor was in the top four overall with a 1278 and also finished fourth in the race for high series.

“It’s always good to be going against competition and for Jacob to be doing as well as he did compared to the field,” said Hay.

Jace Coats was fifth in the high game race on the day while Daniel Wilde finished 15th with a 1211.

Hayden LaDrew took 24th spot with 1185 while Coats finished 25th with 1172.

In the opening game of match play CHS beat Waterloo 1045-1002.

“We were actually down going into the second half of the game by a good amount, maybe 100, but our boys turned it on as a group,” said Hay. “We’ve been waiting on that to happen. We’ve seen little spurts of it but they turned it on to get the win against Waterloo.”

In their semifinal match, they fell to defending state champion Salem 1049-933.

“We were hanging with Salem and easily giving it to them but we had a bad eighth frame,” Hay commented. “Against a team like Salem you can’t give them any bad frames. You can maybe have a kid throw bad one frame but you really can’t blink against a team that strong.”

The Kahoks beat Mt. Vernon 1008-858 in that third place matchup.

Edwardsville win

Collinsville beat Edwardsville 36-4 on Dec. 14 at Edison’s in Edwardsville.

LaDrew fired games of 222 and 213 while Ashton Price rolled a 203.

Belleville West win

Collinsville won at Belleville West on Dec. 12 at Bel-Air Bowl.

Taylor rolled a 269 while Coats went for a high game of 211. Brody Hogenson rolled a high game of 220.
