COLLINSVILLE — It was another successful weekend for the burgeoning Collinsville girls wrestling team.
They competed in O’Fallon, Mo. at Ft. Zumwalt East on Dec. 15 and came back across the river with a tie for the eighth spot with Wentzville, Mo. (Holt).
Kahok junior Taylor Dawson raised her record to 19-0 on the season by winning the 130-pound class championship.
She pinned Breyanna Johnson of Clayton, Mo. at the 3:42 mark then beat Arianna Augustyniak of St. Charles, Mo. (West) via pinfall at 3:33.
Jossie Hopkins of St. Clair, Mo. was her next victim with a pin at 4:26 then she beat Sadie Sehnert from Wright City, Mo. in 1:49 to win yet another tournament.
“She’s really looking forward to the Wonder Woman in a couple of weeks because she’s excited to see some better competition,” said CHS coach Jordan May. “These last couple of tournaments she’s so far out of everyone’s league when it comes to competition. So I’m really excited to watch her at the Wonder Woman too.”
Leann Cory raised her record to 12-3 by taking third place at the tourney.
She beat Braedyn Carson of O’Fallon (Ft. Zumwalt North) in 28 seconds then scored a 9-0 major decision over Peyton Dunn of St. Clair, Mo.
In the third place match she beat Mady Kuhn of Liberty, Mo. by pin at 2:49.
She fell in her semifinal match to Eddyson Reeves of Herculaneum, Mo. at 1:30. Reeves sat at 14-1 after winning the tourney weight class.
Tashieya Taylor took fifth place in the 155 pound class.
Mya Willis of Eureka, Mo. was the first to fall to Taylor in 1:56 while Lucille Mare of Ballwin, Mo. (Parkway West) was next at the 4:45 mark.
Her final win was in the wrestle backs when she pinned Molly Marischen of Troy, Mo. (Buchanan).
She lost to Allison Vacek of Warrenton, Mo. in the quarterfinals. Vacek ended up runner-up in the class.
At 170, Hannah Jones got fifth as well. She beat Murphey Roberts of Rockwood, Mo. (Summit) in 35 seconds to start the tourney.
She beat Ayden Squires of Oakville, Mo. with a pin at the 6:00 mark.
After losing to eventual weight champ Macie Tomlinson of DeSoto, Mo. she received a medical forfeit win to take fifth.
Emma Ford picked up a sixth place finish at 125 to move her record to 8-4 on the year. She pinned Abigail Killian of Hillsboro, Mo. then scored a Major Decision over Lesley Czamano-Briones of Liberty, Mo. by a 13-3 count before falling in the fifth palace match.
St. Clair beat Eureka 156 to 155 to win the team title.
The girls are scheduled to compete on Dec. 27 at the Jacksonville Invite. Two days later Dawson will compete at the Wonder Woman tournament at Battle High School in Columbia, Mo.
